To establish a sustainable and inclusive forest utilization system that enhances the well-being and self-reliance of forest communities.

Mission

To build training and mentoring systems for forest communities, including social forestry groups, to sustainably manage non-timber forest products with added economic value.
To map village resources and potentials to support sustainable supply chain planning and data-driven deforestation prevention.
To promote tree planting and landscape restoration as concrete actions to preserve forests and enhance the value of tropical rainforests.
To raise community awareness through education and outreach on the importance of forests as ecological assets and sources of livelihoods, contributing to both well-being and deforestation prevention.

Demonstration garden for sustainable agriculture

In Sintang, Rimba Raya Abadi supports the development of demonstration gardens to introduce sustainable agriculture and forestry techniques.

The adage "What the farmer doesn't know, he won't eat" also applies in Indonesia. Therefore, we invite farmers to participate in free training so they can see and experience firsthand how to:

improve soil fertility with compost,

maintain soil nutrients from loss, and

increase income from their land.

With higher yields from the same area, the need for agricultural expansion is reduced—thus reducing pressure on forests.

"Jemelak" Training Center

To support the implementation of activities at the sustainable agriculture demonstration plot, the Rimba Raya Abadi Foundation has built the Jemelak Training Center, a training facility located right on the banks of the Jemelak River in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan.

This 8 x 8 meter training building was completed in late 2023 and has since become a hub for learning activities for local farmers.

As of mid-2025, five thematic training sessions had been held at the center, with a total participation of 197 people: 89 men and 108 women.
The center serves not only as a training venue but also as a space for gathering, sharing experiences, and strengthening the community's capacity to become more independent and sustainable forest and land managers.

"Pondok Gaudi" Office

To support the implementation of activities at the demonstration plot, the Rimba Raya Abadi Foundation has constructed a multi-functional building, named Pondok Gaudi. This building is located in a corner of the demonstration plot and was built with the full support of Gaudi Real Estate.

Pondok Gaudi serves several important functions:

A field office where the YRRA team works and coordinates activities;

A kitchen and dining room where meals are prepared for training participants and staff;

Temporary housing for staff who do not yet have a place to stay in Sintang;

Sanitary facilities, including toilets and showers, use rainwater collected from the roof.

During the day, this building serves as an office. At night, the same room serves as sleeping quarters for field staff. These facilities are crucial for supporting daily operations, especially during intensive training and activities on site.

To date, the Foundation has received two donations from Gaudi Real Estate.

The first donation was used entirely for the initial construction of Pondok Gaudi.

The second donation, made in December 2023, will be used to improve the building, including installing ceilings and improving comfort levels to make it suitable for staff housing.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Gaudi Real Estate for their contribution to supporting our fieldwork. Gaudi's hut is not just a building; it is a symbol of partnership, sustainability, and dedication to forest conservation and community empowerment.

Planting Program

One of the important activities of the Rimba Raya Abadi Foundation is the planting of illipe trees (Shorea stenoptera), a critically endangered tree species endemic to Kalimantan. These trees once grew naturally in various regions, but are now becoming increasingly rare due to deforestation and forest degradation.

To restore this species, YRRA plants illipe trees in areas where they no longer grow, using an agroforestry approach that combines illipe with various local fruit trees. This approach supports ecological restoration while providing long-term economic benefits for the surrounding community.

To date, 600 illipe trees have been planted, thanks to support from Rahn AG.

We are also very proud to receive support from the Sint Jozefschool in Nederhorst den Bergh, the Netherlands, which, through fundraising activities, raised €3,000 for the Fat Forest Foundation.

These funds will be used to plant fruit trees around the Sintang Orangutan Center. These trees will produce fruit to feed the orangutans at the rehabilitation center.

🌿 This planting project will be completed by the end of 2023.

Support from partners like Rahn AG and Sint Jozefschool demonstrates that tropical forest conservation and local species restoration can be a collaborative effort across countries and generations.

Rimba Raya Abadi (YRRA) is a non-profit organization established on August 4, 2022, and based in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. YRRA was founded to address the challenges of tropical forest conservation and to improve the livelihoods of forest communities through inclusive, participatory, and sustainable approaches.
